About Us

At Black Cat Psychotherapy, we believe healing begins with curiosity, compassion, and connection. We work with people who are navigating anxiety, trauma, grief, life transitions, and the emotional challenges that can arise while balancing work, relationships, parenting, and daily responsibilities. Many of our clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, disconnected from themselves, or stuck in patterns that no longer serve them.

Our approach is grounded, collaborative, and trauma-informed. We strive to create a space where clients can slow down, gain a deeper understanding of their experiences, and develop greater emotional clarity, resilience, and self-trust. Therapy is not about fixing what is broken; it is about exploring your story with curiosity and care while building the tools and insights needed for meaningful change.

Drawing from evidence-based approaches including EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and person-centered therapy, we support clients experiencing anxiety, trauma, PTSD, grief, perinatal and postpartum mental health concerns, relationship challenges, and major life transitions.

Whether you are seeking support for a specific challenge or simply feel ready for something to change, Black Cat Psychotherapy offers a compassionate space to explore, heal, and grow—at a pace that feels right for you.

Jessica LaPorta, LMFT

Founder/
Owner, Psychotherapist

Jessica LaPorta is the founder and owner of Black Cat Psychotherapy. The practice's name was inspired by a familiar presence throughout her years of providing telehealth therapy: her cats, who frequently made appearances in sessions. During her years of providing telehealth, Jessica had an unexpected discovery: The joy of not just getting to know a client, but the animals in their lives as well — whether they were offering emotional support, curled up nearby, or occasionally making an unexpected appearance on screen. Those moments often reflect something important: healing happens best in spaces where people feel safe, comfortable, and accepted as they are.

Jessica founded Black Cat Psychotherapy with the vision of creating a practice where clients are greeted with warmth, calm, and genuine connection. A Connecticut native, she has been practicing psychotherapy since 2014 and has been licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist since 2015. Her work is grounded in trauma-informed care and integrates EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), DBT, Gottman Method Couples Therapy, and person-centered approaches. She has worked in private practice, inpatient and higher levels of care, crisis, and community outreach.

Jessica specializes in working with adults, couples, and parents navigating anxiety, trauma, PTSD, grief, relationship challenges, perinatal and postpartum mental health concerns, and major life transitions. She believes that curiosity, compassion, and authentic connection create the foundation for meaningful and lasting change.

When she's not working with clients, you will find Jessica spending time with her family and pets, including those who inspired Black Cat Psychotherapy in the first place.
